Getting Started

Solar Basics

Everything you need to know before going solar

Solar is renewable, reliable, and clean energy that reduces reliance on fossil fuels. With your own solar system, you generate part of your electricity on your roof for decades and take control of your energy future.

Suitability depends on your location, roof angle, shade, and home age. Our solar advisors conduct a custom analysis to determine if your home qualifies and assess your energy needs.

The number of panels depends on your power requirements (based on utility bills), climate, and roof characteristics. We customize every system to maximize energy production for your specific home. A household prosumer may install a system of up to 10.8 kW.

Your past usage allows us to customize an appropriately-sized system. A full year of data reveals seasonal variations needed to match your home's actual consumption patterns.

Yes. The Ministry of Mining and Energy, together with the World Bank, co-finances household solar systems through public calls run by municipalities and cities. The calls cover up to 50% of the investment for a single measure and up to 65% for a package of measures. In the 2025 calls the maximum was RSD 440,000 for a single measure and RSD 572,000 for a package. Each municipality publishes its own call and deadlines. In addition, households that submit their request to EDS by 31 December 2026 keep net metering for their surplus electricity.

Installing a solar system increases the attractiveness and value of your home for potential buyers.

Installation

Installation Process

What to expect during your solar installation

A typical installation includes crew arrival and preparation, system design review, panel and wiring installation, cleanup, and a final walk-through explaining system operation and activation procedures.

Installation requires drilling holes to anchor racking equipment. All roof penetrations are waterproofed and guaranteed by our workmanship warranty. Solar panels actually protect underlying roof sections from weathering.

Standard components include solar panels (converting sunlight to DC electricity), an inverter (converting DC to AC), a monitoring meter and the main electrical panel. The bidirectional meter, which records imported and exported energy separately, is installed by the distribution system operator EDS.

Installation typically completes in one day. Pre-installation preparation takes several weeks, including site survey and design finalization. A home system of up to 10.8 kW needs no building permit or other approval.

Your home is powered by solar energy from your roof. You can monitor production via our online portal. You may only export surplus to the grid once EPS has signed your net-metering contract and EDS has entered you in the prosumer register.

After installation, a request for metering-point adaptation goes to EDS. EDS removes the meter, a licensed contractor adapts the metering point, and EDS then checks and seals it. Next, the request for a net-metering contract goes to EPS. We submit both requests on your behalf, with your authorisation. Systems of up to 10.8 kW follow a simplified procedure, for which the law sets a maximum of 30 days.

How Solar Works

Understanding your solar energy system

Solar panels convert sunlight to DC electricity. Inverters transform it to AC electricity powering your home. Excess energy flows to the grid, while the monitoring meter tracks production and the bidirectional meter tracks grid exchanges.

Solar systems produce electricity in all weather conditions. Cloudy-day production typically reaches 10 to 25% of capacity. System designs account for regional sunlight variations to ensure appropriate sizing.

Yes, systems produce year-round, though output fluctuates seasonally. Summer production peaks with longer days, while winter production declines due to shorter days and variable weather. Designs account for seasonal variation.

Panels require sunlight and remain dormant at night, so you draw power from the grid. Through net metering, daytime surplus offsets only your higher-tariff (VT) consumption, not the lower tariff (NT). Battery storage enables consuming daytime-produced electricity after sunset.

Solar systems automatically deactivate during outages to protect utility workers on power lines. Systems restart automatically when utility power restores. Battery-equipped systems continue providing backup power during outages.

Panels continue producing well past 35 years, declining approximately 0.5% annually. After 35 years, systems operate at roughly 82% of their original capacity, providing continued clean renewable energy.

Financing

Costs & Payment

Understanding your solar investment options

In Serbia we offer purchase only. The system belongs to you from day one, which prosumer status also requires, since it is granted for your own system. Maintenance outside warranty coverage is your responsibility, or you can hand it to us with a maintenance contract. You can also finance the purchase with a green loan from the GEFF credit lines offered by Erste Bank, ProCredit Bank, Banca Intesa, 3Bank and NLB Komercijalna banka.

Solar Direct is our purchase model. You buy the system and it belongs to you from day one. We design and install it and handle the procedure with EDS and EPS.

At Free State the indicative price of a solar system without battery is about RSD 352,000 plus about RSD 53,000 per kWp. That is the final price, as Zansu d.o.o. is not registered for VAT. A 5 kWp system comes to roughly RSD 616,000 and a 10 kWp system to roughly RSD 880,000. A 10 to 15 kWh battery adds roughly RSD 470,000 to 822,000. Prices are converted from euros at the NBS middle rate. Subsidies are not deducted from the price. You receive the binding price in a quote after the roof survey.

You generate part of your electricity yourself, so utility rate increases hit your bill less. The greater the utility rate increases over time, the larger your solar savings become.

You remain grid-connected, purchasing supplementary power during insufficient production (cloudy days, winter, nighttime). The billing power charge, the guaranteed-supplier fee and the public broadcasting fee remain on your bill even when solar provides all your electricity.

No. In Serbia, investing in a solar system brings no tax deduction. Equipment and installation normally carry 20% VAT, but Zansu d.o.o. is not registered for VAT, so we charge none on our prices. Municipal subsidy calls can cover part of the investment, and net metering carries your surplus into the following months.

Maintenance & Support

Keeping your system running at peak performance

Trim nearby trees for maximum sun exposure. Spray dusty panels with water. Rainy days typically provide sufficient cleaning. Avoid cleaning snow as it naturally slides off.

Yes. Your system continuously sends its production data to the inverter manufacturer's monitoring portal. With a maintenance contract, we monitor the system and follow up on deviations.

The manufacturers' warranties apply, supplemented by an optional maintenance contract with us. Report problems via our support portal.

Yes. The components are covered by the manufacturers' warranties. Monitoring and maintenance can be added with a maintenance contract.

Contact our customer service for removal and reinstallation quotes. Our team temporarily removes the modules during the roof renovation. Please get in touch early so that we can schedule the work.

Shade reduces panel efficiency. Our design accounts for existing shade, however future tree growth may decrease production. Trimming trees maximizes your panels' sun exposure.

Energy Storage

Battery Storage

Home battery backup and energy independence

Batteries can supply selected circuits, such as the refrigerator, lighting and internet. The duration depends on the storage size and your consumption. Solar modules recharge the battery in daylight.

In the event of an outage, batteries supply the backed-up circuits within seconds. How long depends on the storage size and consumption. Solar modules recharge the battery daily, which enables support over several days.

Systems remain grid-connected when utility power is available. During outages, the battery 'islands' from the grid, powering selected areas of your home. Grid reconnection occurs automatically when utility power restores.

Battery sizing depends on your unique energy needs, consumption habits, and which appliances you want backed up. A professional assessment determines the appropriately-sized system for your specific requirements.

Batteries are typically wall-mounted in garages, utility rooms or on exterior walls.

Installers handle all configuration with optimized settings. Batteries last 10 to 15 years with typical 10-year manufacturer warranties. With a maintenance contract, we monitor your battery as well.

Sustainability

Environmental Impact

How solar energy benefits you and the planet

Solar systems offset their manufacturing emissions within 10 months. Over their lifetime, they prevent carbon emissions equivalent to driving nearly 500,000 miles.

Solar adoption provides clean electricity with zero emissions. Home-generated power reduces grid strain during peak demand, benefiting your entire community's safety and infrastructure.

Surplus solar power that you do not consume yourself is fed into the grid. It is not paid out in money. Instead it carries over to the following months and offsets the electricity you draw later, separately for the higher (VT) and lower (NT) tariff. The settlement year runs from 1 April to 31 March, and surplus left on 31 March is cancelled without payment. Households that submit the metering-point adaptation request to EDS by 31 December 2026 keep net metering. New households from 1 January 2027 move to net billing, where the surplus price is set by the supplier contract and is not regulated.
